Combine the big-game plains of the Maasai Mara with the flamingos and rhinos of Lake Nakuru in four rewarding days.
This classic Kenya road safari pairs the Maasai Mara with Lake Nakuru National Park on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. In the Mara you enjoy full game-drive days in one of Africa's greatest wildlife areas, with a high concentration of lions and the annual migration from July to October. At Lake Nakuru you can look for black and white rhinos, the endangered Rothschild's giraffe and flocks of greater and lesser flamingos, plus viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill. The itinerary can be adjusted to your preferences and travel style.
Ideal for: First-time safari travellers, couples and families who want Kenya's best-known reserve plus a contrasting Rift Valley park in a short trip.
After meeting our representative and a safari briefing, drive south along the Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara, arriving for lunch. Your afternoon game drive brings the first sightings of the Mara's famous wildlife, including the Big Five, zebras, giraffes, hyenas and gazelles. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp (L, D).
Spend the full day exploring the reserve with game drives. The Mara holds one of the highest lion densities in the world and, in season, millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles. Look for lion prides, cheetahs and hippos in the river. An optional Maasai village visit is available at extra cost. All meals and overnight at your camp (B, L, D).
Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving for lunch. On the afternoon game drive look for Thomson's and Grant's gazelles, hippos, leopards, lions, rhinos, waterbuck and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, along with the lake's flamingos. Dinner and overnight at your lodge (B, L, D).
After breakfast, return to Nairobi for a transfer to your hotel or the airport (B).
Accommodation: Lodge or tented camp in the Maasai Mara (2 nights) and a lodge at Lake Nakuru (1 night), or similar.
