Mzima Springs, lava landscapes and red elephants in Tsavo West, followed by a night at Salt Lick Safari Lodge.
Tsavo West is the more varied twin of Tsavo East, with volcanic hills, lava flows such as Shetani and the crystal-clear Mzima Springs, where an underwater observatory lets you watch hippos below the surface. This three-day safari from Mombasa gives you a night in Tsavo West for game drives among elephants, lions, leopards and plains game, followed by a night at Salt Lick Safari Lodge in the Taita Hills, built on stilts above a waterhole. Naturalist-led walks around the camp add an extra perspective on the landscape.
Ideal for: Couples, families with children aged 5+ and repeat visitors to Tsavo who want dramatic scenery and varied wildlife from the coast.
Early pick-up and briefing, then drive to Tsavo West, famous for Mzima Springs and its underwater hippo observatory. The park protects many species, from leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes and elephants to giraffes, zebras, lions and crocodiles, across habitats from plains to the Chyulu Hills. Check in for lunch, then an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at your lodge (L, D).
After breakfast, take an escorted walk with a naturalist around the camp, then check out and game drive to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary with lunch at Taita Hills. An afternoon game drive looks for lions, cheetahs, giraffes and elephants. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Salt Lick Safari Lodge (B, L, D).
After breakfast, game drive en route back to Mombasa for drop-off at your hotel or the airport (B).
Accommodation: Lodge or camp in Tsavo West (1 night) and Sarova Salt Lick Safari Lodge (1 night), or similar.
