A short road safari from the coast to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and the iconic Salt Lick Safari Lodge on stilts above a waterhole.
This quick escape from the beach takes you to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private 100 sq km reserve on the edge of the Tsavo ecosystem. You stay at the famous Salt Lick Safari Lodge, built on stilts above a floodlit waterhole so you can watch elephants and other wildlife from your room, the walkways or even the dining table. Afternoon and early-morning game drives add sightings of lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes and over 300 bird species. It runs year-round and is ideal for families and beach holidaymakers with limited time.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Pick-up from your hotel and a safari briefing, then drive to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, home to buffaloes, elephants, zebras, hartebeest, impalas, lesser kudu, leopards, Maasai lions and Maasai giraffes. Lunch at Taita Hills Safari Resort, followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Salt Lick Safari Lodge, overlooking the waterhole (L, D).
An early-morning game drive, then breakfast at the lodge. Return to Mombasa with a game drive en route and drop-off at your hotel (B).
Accommodation: 1 night at Salt Lick Safari Lodge (or Taita Hills Safari Resort for the standard option).

This safari runs year-round. The dry seasons (June to October and January to February) generally offer the easiest game viewing, while the green season brings lush scenery, newborn animals and fewer visitors.
